Primary Duties

Under the direction of the Street Manager, this position performs work to diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical and electronic systems, street lighting, and facilities within the City of Norfolk. In addition, this role maintains, replaces, installs and changes traffic signals, controllers and related equipment. Work is performed in the field and in the shop. This position will help support snow removal. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Experience in commercial and industrial electrical installations and maintenance; • Ability to maintain, modify City electrical systems and buildings; • Complete smaller electrical projects; • Install “special system” wiring for the IT department; • Oversee city projects for compliance to specs; • Assist city divisions as needed; • Replace bulbs, clean lenses, adjust signal heads, maintain & repair communication equipment; • Performs routine maintenance on signal cabinets; • Locate electrical to signals and City electrical; • Check and repair field wiring, loop detectors and preemptions; • These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: • Electrical theory, micro-processors and control circuitry; • Methods, tools, and materials used in electrical and related electromechanical repair work; • Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; Ability to: • Learn the Traffic Control Systems to maintain and modify as required; • Fill in for the City electrical inspector as needed; • Operate a bucket truck; • Use hand tools and apparatus common to the electrical trade and the operation of electrical and electromechanical equipment; • Use electrical test equipment in repair of control equipment; • Climb a ten foot ladder while carrying up to 40 pounds of tools and/or equipment; • Distinguish colors accurately; • Interpret plans and specifications from blue prints; • Read and understand electronic test equipment information; • Bend, twist, turn, pull, lean and reach; • Maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public; • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; TRAINING, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Five years of experience and/or training in electrical troubleshooting is required. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. A Nebraska State Electrical Board License (Journeyman Electrician Certificate) is required or will need to be obtained within 1 year. Must have a valid Nebraska Driver’s License and able to obtain a class B commercial driver’s license within 6 months. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Be willing to take classes and understand signal systems. 


Compensation Details

 Salary range $4,472-$6,140 per month
