Primary Duties

Under the direction of the Wastewater Plant Superintendent, this position oversees operations of the City Waste Transfer Station and the Northeast Nebraska Solid Waste Coalition (NNSWC) landfill. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing solid waste transfer and disposal operations, maintaining facilities and equipment, ensuring regulatory compliance, and responding to emergencies.

 PRIMARY DUTIES

• Supervise Solid Waste operations; develop and implement policies, procedures, and goals.

• Train, supervise, and evaluate employees; address performance, discipline, and grievances.

• Manage budgets, reports, bids, contracts, and inventory.

• Oversee waste inspection, hazardous waste programs, compost and brush pile operations.

• Ensure compliance with EPA, NDEE, and other applicable regulations; manage permits and inspections.

• Respond to public inquiries and emergencies (24/7); participate in meetings and community relations.

• Oversee the maintenance and repair of all transfer station equipment and facilities.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Strong knowledge of solid waste operations, environmental regulations, and safety practices.

• Experience with landfill operations, air permitting, groundwater and gas monitoring.

• Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Proficient with computers, email, MS Word, and Excel.  

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate’s degree

• Valid Class A CDL

• SWANA Manager of Landfill Operations Certification

• SWANA Household Hazardous Waste & CESQG Manager Certification

• Former DOT Stormwater Inspector 


Compensation Details

Salary $6,348 – $8,725 per month.
