Primary Duties
DEFINITION Under the direction of the Solid Waste Supervisor, performs a variety of duties in the operation of the Transfer Station Scale house. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Open and close the scale house.
• Weigh customers in and out.
• Inspect loads for questionable or banned wastes.
• Record a running total on trailer weight.
• Communicate via two-way radio with the station operators regarding the customer’s weight and waste type.
• Balance the cash drawer on a daily basis and prepare deposit reports.
• Answer customer questions. • Operate computer and related office equipment.
• Keep the inside office area and the surrounding property to scale house clean.
• Give directions to the various areas for disposal of grass, trees, pallets, concrete, etc.
• Take phone calls to help customers what can be disposed at the transfer station.
• Make referrals to other recyclers or other resources for disposal of items that cannot be taken at the transfer station.
• Direct customers to the oil and chemical site.
• Clean snow and debris from scale deck and walkways.
• Maintain grounds adjacent to the scale house.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of & Ability to:
• Training on how to recognize unacceptable wastes;
• Represents the City and must therefore be courteous and patient with customers;
• Ability to maintain a working relationship with members of staff;
• Must be able to handle cash and charge transactions;
• Maintain computerized records;
• Prepare reports and operate all associated office equipment
Compensation Details
Salary Range $3,411 – $4,840 per month.
