Primary Duties

CANDIDATE’S COMMITMENTS TO ACHIEVE – The Chief Fiscal Officer is responsible for all financial transactions and records of NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska.  The prime responsibility of this position is to direct, maintain, and fulfill the fiscal responsibilities and accounting requirements established by funding sources, apply sound business principles of general accounting system and maintain such records and make such reports as are necessary for internal financial control and accountability for NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska.  The Chief Fiscal Officer will perform other duties such as work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer in compiling information and completing reports as necessary.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES – Listed are the various traits and skills the candidate would need to succeed.          

·       Maintain a complete set of financial books and records that conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

·       Conducts transactions and enters data for accounts payable, accounts receivable, receipts, disbursements and journal entries.

·       Maintain general accounting systems.

·       Prepare all financial statements and reports as needed for the administration of the organization, such as; Board of Directors, Finance Committee and Chief Executive Officer.

·       Ability to utilize the accounting system to generate programmatic reports.

·       Adhere to and follow NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska Financial Policies and Procedures.

·       Reconcile bank statements.

·       Prepare federal and state grant and loan financial reports.

·       Prepare federal and state tax reports.

·       Assist the CEO and CEO with budget research and preparation.

·       Assist the COO in maintaining contract files.

·       Establish and maintain investment accounts.

·       Prepare and submit payment requests to local, state and federal agencies.

·       Provide information to the Auditor in the preparation of the annual audit.

·       Assist in procurement and contract for business insurance and audit services.

·       Monitor Retirement Accounts.

·       Keep informed about national, regional and state financial policy requirements and brief appropriate management staff members of any changes.

·       Establish and maintain inventory of fixed assets.

·       Assist with preparation for Board of Director meetings.

·      Assist in the preparation of payment requests, vouchers and data entry of housing programs financial systems.

·      Prepare  grant related setup and financial reports

·      Assist with closing documents when purchasing and selling real estate.

·      Prepare real estate documents as needed.

·      Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

PREFERRED INTERESTS/QUALIFICATIONS

·       Minimum two (2) year degree in accounting and preferred two (2) or more years of experience.

·       Experience in operating a Fund Accounting software system.

·       Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and of their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems.

·       Mathematical proficiency.

·       Proficiency in Excel.

·       Knowledge of office procedures, practices, systems and equipment.

·       Knowledge of federal and state fund accounting practices.

·       Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems and to discern those requiring policy determinations by superiors.

·       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

·       Ability to maintain effective financial procedures and methods for all agency financial business.

·       Ability to meet multiple deadlines and organize large volumes of data.

·       Ability to express ideals clearly, orally and in writing.

·       Will maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the organization.

 

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       Good understanding of not-for-profit organization operations.

·  Experience in banking or real estate.

·  Experience in working with private, city, state, and federal housing programs.
