Primary Duties

The City of Norfolk Library Division is seeking a seasonal Library Page to assist in shelving and organizing library materials, as well as support youth programs. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to learn library classification systems, and contribute to a positive, teamfocused work environment.  English/Spanish bilingual skills a plus.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Shelf materials in their proper locations, including straightening shelves, and shelf-reading areas as needed. 

  • Check shelves for overdue or missing items.  

  • Pull library materials from new shelves as instructed and re-shelf them as appropriate. 

  • Assist in keeping the library neat and ready for use by the public. 

  • Direct patrons to appropriate locations or staff members when asked for assistance.  

  • Empty the book drop, check items in and organize returned materials on carts. 

  • Perform other duties as required. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Requires an understanding of libraries and how they operate 

  • Ability to organize materials alphabetically and by Dewey Decimal number,  

  • Strong attention to detail,  

  • Ability to push and pull carts of library materials,  

  • Effective communication skills,  

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees and the public. 


Compensation Details

Starting salary $15.00 per hour.


Benefits

Up to 20 hours per week • Flexible scheduling, based on the needs of the Youth Services Department.
