Primary Duties

DEFINITION Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, this position plans, prepares, and facilitates recreation activities for participants of all ages in City parks, facilities, aquatic center, and other related areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist in the creation and distribution of promotional materials including, but not limited to, fliers, videos, photographs, and brochures

• Setting up and tearing down equipment for recreation activities and events

• Cleaning parks and recreation areas before and after recreation activities and events

• Prepare materials, signs, banners, and equipment before events

• Manage registrations as participants arrive for events

• Handle small amounts of money at recreation events

• Create comprehensive plans for day camps and facilitate day camps

• Maintain and clean the ice rink and surrounding facilities

• Operate ice rink during opening hours

• Transport recreation materials and equipment between parks and storage facilities

• Maintain white water park/river and surrounding areas

• Keep life jacket stations stocked with helmets and life jackets, and retrieve used life jackets and helmets from drop-off areas • General recreation maintenance tasks • Performs other duties as assigned.  


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

• Basic safety procedures and safe work practices

• Basic tools including hammers, screwdrivers, and gardening tools

• Recreation activities including sports, outdoor games, and leisure activities Ability to:

• Perform general maintenance activities

• Perform manual labor

• Operate a motor vehicle

• Work in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and extreme cold

• Carry out oral and written directions

• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

• Have good communication with superiors, coworkers, and program participants and families

• Work independently and without direct monitoring
