Primary Duties

Under direction of the Water and Sewer Director, maintains the water treatment process to provide a safe and adequate water supply to the consumers. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Monitors instrument panel and computers at both water plants; • Maintains proper levels of water in all storage facilities; • Checks and records well readings at both treatment plants, 13 wells and 4 booster stations; • Runs chlorine, iron and manganese tests for both treatment plants and wells; • Conducts drawdowns on wells; • Backwashes filters at both treatment plants; • Services all sizes of water meters brought in for repair; • Calibrates equipment; • Performs minor maintenance, general cleaning and equipment painting at both plants; • Performs yard work and snow removal; • Checks and perform maintenance on both sprinkler systems; • Assists and performs minor troubleshooting on the sewage liftstations; • Performs minor service calls which include service on/offs, change out meters, and investigates complaints for the public; • Assists with the sewer cleaning machine; • Attends continuing education classes; • Answers phones when necessary; • Performs other duties as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: • Principles and practices of water or wastewater treatment plant operations. • Principles of plant equipment such as valves, pumps and motors. • Methods and techniques of maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting water plant equipment and processes. • Basic mathematical principles. • Laboratory analysis techniques and health standards for water or wastewater. • Water treatment chemicals used within the plant and their safe use and application. • Sampling methods and techniques. • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications. • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures. • Pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to water treatment. Ability to: • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Work without direct supervision. • Assume responsibility for complete operation of treatment plants. • Detect problems in equipment operations. • Make sound, independent, decisions requiring treatment plant operations. • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. • Obtain a Grade 4 Nebraska Water Operators Certificate; • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work. TRAINING, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of training and/or experience that can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the desired knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position. Must possess a Nebraska Driver’s License; Nebraska Class “B” CDL, a Grade 4 Nebraska Water Operator’s Certificate. 


Compensation Details

Work schedule includes 4-day work week, with every 3rd weekend scheduled. Monthly salary range is $4,046 – $5,544
