Primary Duties

Nature of work: 

The Director for TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is responsible for the administration of the Wayne State College SSS program in accordance with the federal guidelines and regulations determined by the U.S. Department of Education. The Director is responsible for enrollment management, budget management, staff supervision, program oversight, assessment, and reporting. The Director for TRIO Student Support Services represents Student Success Services to the campus community and collaborates with other campus constituencies to create a campus environment that is conducive to the academic success of low-income and first-generation college students and students with disabilities.

Examples of work performed: 

1. Develop, manage and evaluate the Student Support Services program to promote retention, academic good standing and graduation of program participants
2. Direct, plan, implement goals, and activities designed for their accomplishment
3. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, facilitate weekly meetings, and evaluate staff
4. Administer, develop, implement, and revise federal grant funds in accordance with federal guideline and program goals
5. Develop and implement formative and summative program assessments as described in the grant proposal
6. Establish and maintain appropriate record keeping and accounting systems in accordance with Wayne State College and U.S. Department of Education guidelines
7. Complete monthly and annual performance report for state and federal requirements and facilitate grant proposal for continued funding
8. Maintain student roster, caseload, files, and documentation for program participants
9. Provide academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, and a Living Learning Community for program participants
10. Plan and implement student success workshops and activities
11. Develop and maintain liaisons with WSC administration, faculty/ staff and Department of Education personnel
12. Communicate program goals, objectives, and needs of target students to the WSC community
13. Develop and maintain websites to share information about the services provided
14. Complete all other duties as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree required in student development, higher education, counseling, educational administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university
• Five years of experience counseling, advising or providing support services in a postsecondary setting or equivalent
• Three years of experience designing, managing or implementing SSS or similar programs
• Knowledge of EDGAR and federal regulations concerning TRIO programs
• Budget and grant management
• Supervisory Experience
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
 
• Background similar to SSS-eligible participants
• Experience working with postsecondary first-generation, low-income college students, persons with disabilities and/or underrepresented students
• Experience interpreting and implementing government regulations in program delivery
• Experience working with underrepresented students in a postsecondary setting
• Experience with financial aid guidelines and procedures

Benefit coverage begins the first day of the month after employment starts.

HEALTH AND DENTAL

Coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska with two options: a Preferred Provider Plan (PPO) with a $650 deductible

or a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a $3,800 deductible.

• Preferred Provider (PPO) = $650.00 deductible, co-insurance 80/20, out of pocket maximum is $4,600. Co-pays are

$35 for primary physician, $55 for specialty physician or urgent care, $85 for ER visits. This plan includes a prescription

discount.

• High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) = $3,800.00 deductible, co-insurance 90/10, out of pocket maximum is $4,350.

Health Reimbursement Account funded by WSC for out of pocket expenses.

• Dental Plan includes two oral exams/cleanings each calendar year with no deductible. Any restorative or maintenance

services cost a $25 deductible per year.

VISION

Coverage through Ameritas-VSP; $20 deductible for an annual exam; coverage includes specified maximums for lenses and

frames and a discount on contacts.

LIFE INSURANCE

All full time employees receive a term life plan with a death benefit of $30,000. Optional supplemental coverage is available.

RETIREMENT

Voluntary contributions are available for full time employees. Once employees meet the minimum age requirements,

employees will contribute 6% of gross salary on a pre-tax basis and WSC contributes 8%. Employees are fully vested from the

first date of contributions. Employees may contribute up to what law allows each year.

PAID LEAVE PROGRAMS

Full time employees receive sick leave, vacation leave, 6 days of bereavement leave, and 13 paid holidays.
