General Job Description:

 

To lead The Zone in accomplishing mission of promoting the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of adolescents.  Responsibilities include: 1.) Grant Writing and Administration, Donor Recruitment and Management, Special Event Fundraising 2.) Human Resource Management, 3.) Public and Community Relations, 4.) Program Development and Administration, and 5.) Budget Management.

 

Essential Duties:

 

Develop Annual Fundraising Plan to support the Mission and Programs of The Zone Afterschool program.  The plan is to include Grant Writing, Donor Recruitment and Management, and Fundraiser events.  Program management and development of annual business plan/strategic plan to meet the organization’s goals.  Overall management of the organization as a whole.

 

Grant Writing and Administration –

Tasks: Facilitate grant searches to identify appropriate funders.  Prepare thorough and timely grant proposals.  Complete necessary certifications on grants received.  Implement grants in coordination with staff and/or other agencies.  Complete thorough and timely grant reports quarterly and annually.  Maintain grant related program data.

 

Donor Recruitment and Management

Tasks:  Maintain relationships with current donors through communications and events.  Prospect and recruit new donor relationships, with the assistance of the Board of Directors.  Maintain up to date donor database. 

 

Fundraiser Events

Tasks:  Oversee the timeline and implementation of fundraising events with assistance from the Board of Directors.  Determine new events, if needed.  Manage financial aspect, written communications, logistical aspect and meeting planning for event organization.

 

Human Resource Management –

Tasks: Oversee and approve the hiring of all staff.  Provide staff with guidance, support, encouragement and resources.  Design and update job descriptions.  Conduct performance appraisals on all staff annually including determining compensation package adjustments.  Facilitate relevant staff training and development opportunities.  Facilitate weekly staff meetings. 

 

 

Program Development and Administration

Tasks: Identify and research potential programming opportunities.  Oversee administration of all programs including design, funding, staffing and evaluation.  Maintain program data records.  Evaluate program effectives by monitoring achievement of outcomes. Develop Annual Business Plan to target growth of The Zone both in programs offered and youth attending.

 

Public and Community Relations –

Tasks: Perform Zone presentations to church groups, civic clubs, corporations, schools, youth serving organizations, and other relevant audiences as requested.  Attend relevant community wide committees and task forces. Represent The Zone on professional associations and networks. Prepare The Zone Annual Report.

 

Budget Management –

Tasks: Plan and submit annual budget to Board of Directors for approval by June every year (prior to start of fiscal year – July 1).  Approve and ensure that program expenditures fall within budget.  Track and monitor grant specific budgets.  Provide accountant with bank statements and other records for preparation of monthly financial reports.  Work with accountant to complete annual audit and 990.

 

Other Duties –

Tasks: Report to the Board of Directors at Monthly meetings.  Attend program fund-raisers.  Maintain program data records.  Evaluate program effectiveness with annual survey administered to the young people that attend The Zone.  Engage in professional development activities including participation in workshops, conferences, seminars, and classes.  Send thank you’s for and track in-kind donations.

 

 

 


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Knowledge:

  • Education: Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit management, Public Relations/Management preferred. 
  • Sales/Fundraising or Marketing experience preferred. 
  • Computers: basic word processing, spreadsheet and internet, Social Media, Website
  • Youth development and/or Experience/working with youth would be a bonus.
  • Budget preparation and management.
  • Previous supervisory/management or people management preferred.

Compensation Details

Beginning Salary Range of $50,000 - $55,000 dependent on experience and knowledge/skills
