Primary Duties

Under direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, plans, coordinates and participates in tree care activities including inspecting, pruning, planting and felling. Performs landscape design work for public properties and participates in the care and maintenance of those areas. Participates and develops educational programs and Arbor Day events. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Coordinates and participates in the proper care of trees in all public parks and public properties maintained by the City; • Operates and assists in the maintenance of mobile aerial devices and other equipment; • Plants, prunes, sprays and removes trees; repairs trees damaged by vehicles and storms; • Climbs trees using ladders, rope and saddle and other methods; • Prunes or cuts branches using power saws, handsaws or other tree care equipment; • Participates in the preparation of specifications for trees, equipment and needed service for tree care; • Performs manual tasks such as clearing brush, planting trees, removing stumps, grindings, filling stump holes and other general maintenance; • Prepares and maintains records for trees and plants in all public parks and public properties maintained by the City; • Plans, plants and assists in the preparation of areas that are to be landscaped with trees, shrub and other plant material; • Assists with a tree canopy and plan and implementation; • Provides informative programs for local schools and clubs when requested; • Participates and develops arbor day events; • Assists other staff in maintenance and repairs of property and equipment in City parks; and • Participates in tree board meetings and grant applications • Performs other duties as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: • Precautions and equipment necessary to perform work safely. • Tree care and the methods, techniques and specialized equipment used in pruning, spraying, planting and removal of trees. • Tree and shrub species for identification purposes. • Insects, parasite and diseases that attack trees and of proper control methods. Ability to: • Climb trees and work with aerial equipment at varying heights and angles. • Move equipment, ladders and lift logs and branches. • Operate and maintain tree care equipment, hand tools and power tools. • Work in adverse weather conditions. • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 


Compensation Details

 $3,869- $5,301 per month.
