Primary Duties
Under the direction of the Planning & Development Director, performs technical work in the investigation and control of environmental health conditions and assessment of properties to ensure compliance with Norfolk City Codes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Responds to complaints and conducts sanitation surveys within the city limits to evaluate concerns related to weeds, trash and tree maintenance. • Notifies affected property owners and conducts follow-ups; • Reviews tree maintenance to assure proper clearances over streets, alleys and sidewalks; • Responds to Property Maintenance Code concerns including, but not limited to, life safety issues, overcrowding and zoning related to housing conditions; • Oversees the licensure and evaluations as necessary of mobile home parks and swimming pools; • Assist with zoning and assessment of properties to ensure compliance with Norfolk City Codes. • Responsible for electronic and hardcopy recording of daily inspections, activities and other public contacts; • Prepares documentation for deficiencies found; • Advises and provides technical assistance to the Building/Property Maintenance Board of Appeals, Board of Adjustment and other Advisory Boards; • Serves as liaison to federal, state and local agencies; • Participates in meetings and educational training; • Provides continual health education and health promotion activities to the community; • Obtain and maintain required certification; • Performs related duties assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must achieve certification as a Property Maintenance Code Inspector within 18 months of employment to this position. Must achieve Category 09 pesticide applicator license from the UNL Extension office withing 12 months. Must possess a valid Nebraska State Driver’s license. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to deal with the public in a friendly and professional manner; possess a thorough knowledge of City Code concerning health issues. Bilingual preferred.
Compensation Details
Salary $4,848 -$6,651 per month.
