Primary Duties

Under the direction and supervision of the Housing Director, performs a large variety of administrative support work regarding the various programs performed by the Housing Division. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Accepts applications and schedules interviews; • Verifies accuracy of application information and researches discrepancies; • Updates and maintains client application and information; • Performs background and reference checks of applicants; • Takes applications for yearly re-examination of clients; • Computes rents based on financial information provided following housing guidelines; • Prepares contracts, leases, correspondence and communication to landlords, tenants and others involved with the housing program operations; • Greets and offers assistance to individuals in person and by phone; • Provides information on eligibility status and required policies and procedures; • Inputs information and data into computer; • Performs reviews of tenant's eligibility to remain on a specific housing program; • Reviews tenant files and sends out appropriate request for information. • Documents ongoing interactions with clients to ensure continuation of services; • Maintains files and waiting lists, keeps time/date files for monthly action to be taken; • Performs a wide variety of general clerical work including the maintenance of accurate and detailed eligibility records; • Attends meetings and training programs, some trainings require out of town travel; and • Performs other duties as assigned.  


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: ? Customer service and public relation methods and techniques. ? Business letter writing; basic principles and practices of administrative research and report preparation. ? Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting. ? English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. ? Basic mathematical principles. ? Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations. ? Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications and databases. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. ? Methods and techniques of effective customer service. Ability to: ? Perform a variety of responsible office assistant duties and activities of a general and specialized nature in support of other staff and programs. ? Utilize a variety of computer programs and software pertaining to the business of the city. ? Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines. ? Enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance. ? Work with frequent interruptions and a high degree of public contact by phone, email, or in person. ? Establish and maintain records and reports. ? Deal constructively and patiently with conflict. ? Understand and follow oral and written instructions. ? Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. ? Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.  


Compensation Details

 Salary range$3,303 - $4,684 per month.
