Summary of Position

The Tool Room Lead is responsible for training, directing, advising, and coordinating activities of the machinists and mold repair technicians as delegated by the Tooling - Molding Supervisor.

This role will support Manufacturing in the Medical Segment.

 

What a Tool Room Technician contributes to Cardinal Health 
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tooling needs with Production Supervisors, Lead Molding Techs and Engineering teammates

  • Provide clear instruction and direction to the machinists and mold repair technicians

  • Identify, design, and provide training opportunities and programs related to machine tooling

  • Quote projects, communicate with vendors, maintains tooling and supply inventories, and document component cost and information

  • Manage and direct projects from start to finish

  • Disassemble and reassemble injection mold assemblies

  • Troubleshoot mold piece part defects and make injection mold modifications as needed

  • Operate metal working hand tools along with various shop and precision measuring equipment

  • Set up and operate machine tools and welding equipment and repair or fabricate high precision mold and automation components

  • Read and understand component blueprints to fabricate quality components

  • Work with Engineering Team to offer mold design and process equipment improvements

  • Comply with statutory responsibility under the national/federal regulations - take reasonable care of your own health, safety and welfare along with teammates that may be affected by your acts at work

  • Complete and remain up to date on required EH&S training and participate in EH&S activities such as: root cause analysis, finding solutions, implementing improvements, inspections, and meetings

  • Follow all established EH&S procedures and policies, ISO 13485, GMP, OSHA and plant/corporate standards and encourage teammates to follow them

  • Observe all safety precautions and regulations at all times in all areas where duties are performed

  • Report all safety incidents, hazards, and potential unsafe working conditions

 

 

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience, preferred

  • Degree in related field, preferred

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize to meet deadlines

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and detail-oriented skills

  • Team player – ability to work independently and with a team to accomplish goal

  • Understanding of FDA regulations surrounding the manufacturing of medical devices, and GMPs

  • Experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools
