Primary Duties

Under direction and supervision of the Technology and Technical Services Supervisor, performs a variety of assigned library tasks. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Performs original, OCLC, and brief entry cataloging of new and donated books and media, including creating and applying labels as necessary; • Cleans up bibliographic records and authority files as time allows; • Deletes weeded holdings off OCLC bibliographic records; • Performs related cataloging duties, including applying cross references to authors, subjects, and series; • Assists patrons at all service desks, including checking materials in and out, organizing returned materials, collecting service charges, registering new patrons, placing holds on materials for patrons, searching for materials, providing reader's advisory, helping patrons with library-related technology questions, and basic reference service; • Answers telephones and provides assistance with patron questions; • Assists in the selection, organization, and maintenance of library collections as assigned; • Handles library acquisitions, unpacking and receiving new library materials and returning damaged or flawed materials to the vendor; • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

JOB STANDARDS/SKILLS Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related field, or commensurate experience related to the job; knowledge of the principles and practices of public libraries; training in library cataloging practices or the ability to gain such training; understanding of computers and accompanying software and applications; effective communication skills; strong organization skills with attention to details; ability to do detail-oriented work in a potentially distracting environment; and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees and the public.  

Compensation Details

Salary range $17.55-$24.34 per hour.
